La primera parte del viaje fue intensa, hicimos paradas pero el trayecto era exigente. Casi 1200 km. de golpe. Tan dura, que el cansancio en algunos nos hizo mella. Nuestro objetivo era Amiens y llegamos justo para cenar. Nuestra primera experiencia con cocina ajena fue… deplorable. Lo siento, pero como en casa no se come en otro lugar.

First part of the trip was intense, we made stops but the journey was demanding. Almost 746 miles in a row. So hard, that fatigue made ​​some to have a nap. Our objective was Amiens and arrived just for dinner. Our first experience with foreign food was... deplorable. Sorry, but at home it is not eaten elsewhere.



Después de dormir en Amiens, bien pronto por la mañana, nos dirigimos hacia Calais. El tiempo no era agradable. La lluvia parecía que iba a convertirse en nuestra compañera de viaje.

After sleeping at Amiens, either early in the morning, we headed towards Calais. The weather was not nice. The rain looked set to become our travel mate.






Antes de coger el ferry y cruzar el canal de la Mancha nos paramos a llenar el depósito. Justo antes de que el cielo cayera sobre nosotros.

Una vez dentro del ferry, llegó un momento de descanso, un momento para dibujar. El exterior lluvioso se combinó con mi primer café y mi "muffin" de "blueberries".

Fue llegar al puerto de Dover el día empezó a mejorar. Así que decidimos ir al Castillo, justo dos años antes Eli y yo habíamos visitado el castillo, el año de las olimpiadas de Londres y de nuevo conseguí poder dibujar durante un buen rato.

Aquestes setmanes estic voltant i dibuixant Catalunya, els paisatges i els edificis que et pots trobar quan visites les vinyes de cada D.O. Fa pocs dies vaig estar a Alella i més tard vaig estar al Bages. Vaig conèixer en Josep Codina, em va ensenyar la seva petita vinya, Murallius, i em va explicar amb passió com es vinculava amb ella.

Estas semanas estoy dando vueltas y dibujando Cataluña, los paisajes y los edificios que te puedes encontrar cuando visitas las viñas de cada D.O. Hace pocos días estuve en Alella y más tarde he visitado el Bages. Conocí a Josep Codina, me enseñó su pequeña viña, Murallius, y me explicó con pasión como se vinculaba con ella.

These weeks I am going round and drawing Catalonia, landscapes and buildings that you can find when you visit the vineyards of each DO A few days ago I was in Alella and later I visited the Bages. Voltes i voltes fins arribar a les Tines dels tres Salts que no és gens fàcil. Si segueixes el GR i no et despistes pots arribar fins a les tines. Les veuràs des de l'altre banda del riu si véns des del Pont de Vilomara. Si en canvi has agafat el camí des de Sant Fruitòs de Bages no les veuràs fins que no hagis passat l'encreuament que has d'agafar per arribar-hi. Hi han senyals però no diuen específicament Tines dels Tres Salts. Però si diuen tines. S'ha de creuar el riu Llobregat.  

Das vueltas y más vueltas hasta llegar a las Tinas de los tres Saltos que no es nada fácil. Si sigues el GR y no te despistes puedes llegar hasta las tinas. Las verás desde el otro lado del río si vienes desde el Pont de Vilomara. Si en cambio has cogido el camino desde Sant Fruitós de Bages no las verás hasta que no hayas pasado el cruce que tienes que coger para llegar. Hay señales pero no dicen específicamente Tinas los Tres Saltos. Pero si dicen tinas. Se debe cruzar el río Llobregat.

En las próximas semanas os voy a explicar la aventura de 5 personas en un Mini Countryman. 4466 km. /2775 millas nos han puesto a prueba y han puesto a prueba a un campeón, nuestro Mini. Con la idea de un equipaje mínimo, como si fuéramos en un avión facturando una pequeña maleta y algunos extras más, hemos recorrido Francia de Norte a Sur para llegar al Reino Unido y pasar unos días en Oxford para luego estar una semana en Londres. Después de levantarnos muy pronto, en un pispás, nos colocamos en la frontera. El coche con 5 personas, 3 adultos y dos niñas se portó, genial.

En seguida llegamos al puente diseñado por Sir Norman Foster, el puente de Millau. Cruzarlo es toda una experiencia. Yo no recuerdo la primera vez que crucé Francia con mis padres, en 1989, aún no estaba construido, pero hacerlo ahora es una manera fabulosa de hacerlo. Además te ahorras un buen trozo de camino, bajando el valle de Millau y volviéndolo a subir. Bien merecía un dibujo. 

Then we arrived to the bridge designed by Sir Norman Foster, the Millau bridge. Crossing it is a great experience. I remember the first time I crossed France with my parents in 1989, it was not yet built, but now it is a fabulous way to do it. Also you save a good chunk of way, down the valley of Millau and making it up. Well, it deserved a drawing.

5 minutos en Londres / 5 minutes in London

Así es como me sentí el día después de llegar. Fuimos a Londres y todo parece un sueño. Ése es el tiempo que pasamos en Londres, 5 minutos, o al menos ésa es mi sensación.

That way I felt the day after arriving. We went to London and everything seems a dream. This is time we spend in London, 5 minutes, or at least it is my feeling. We went to plenty of places and we stretched time as much as we could.

Al llegar la mejor manera de ir a Londres es en tren desde Stansted, así que deberías de comprar un "Open Return Ticket". Se trata de un billete de ida y vuelta que te permite ir a Londres y volver en cualquier momento que desees durante un mes.

When you arrive the best way to go to London is by train from Stansted, so you should buy an "Open Return Ticket". It is a round trip ticket which allows you go to London and come back any time you want during one month.

Si viajas con Air Rynair las restricciones de equipaje son estrictas y yo no estaba muy seguro con las dimensiones y el peso de mi mochila. Así que dejé todo mi equipo de dibujo y me decidí a comprar un cuaderno de dibujo tan pronto como pudiera en la ciudad de Londres. Así que después de visitar The National Gallery, Fabiola, una amiga mía que vive en Londres, nos llevó a una fabulosa tienda de arte llamada: Cass Art. Allí me compré mi nueva caja de acuarelas, plumas algunas Unipin y dos cuadernos de bocetos, que se hacen con un papel notable. Os recomiendo que visitéis Cass Art y echéis un vistazo a sus ofertas.

If you travel with Rynair Airlines luggage restrictions are severe and I wasn't pretty confident with my backpack's dimensions and weight. So I left all my sketching gear and I decided to buy a sketchbook as soon as I could in London city. So after visiting The National Gallery, Fabiola, a friend of mine who is living in London, led us to a fabulous Art Shop called: Cass Art. There I bought my new watercolor box, some Unipin's pens and two sketchbooks, which are made with a notable paper. I extremely recommend to you visiting Cass Art and have a glimpse to all their sales.

Sólo después de comprar mis cosas, fuimos a una cafetería llamada Caffé Concierto. Caro, muy caro. Al día siguiente fuimos al mercado de Portobello, pasando por Hyde Park y los Jardines Kensingthon.

Just I bought my stuff we went to a coffee shop called Caffé Concerto. Expensive, very expensive.

Next day we went to Portobello Market, going through Hyde Park and Kensingthon Gardens.

En el camino al mercado de Portobello nos detuvimos en la iglesia de San Mattew, allí habían algunos asiduos a la espera de la Misa.

On our way to Portobello market we stop at Saint Mattew's Church, there were some regulars awaiting for the Mass.

Incluso habiendo comprado mi caja nueva de acuarelas casi no las pude probar, porque, como siempre, el tiempo nos apremió.

Even I had had bought my new watercolour set box I could not hardly tested it, because of, as always, time urged us.

En el Museo de Historia Natural nos sentimos abrumados por todo lo expuesto, por todas las exposiciones y las salas llenas de minerales o animales disecados.

At The Natural History Museum we felt overwhelmed by all the stuff exposed, by all the exhibitions and rooms filled with minerals or dissected animals.

Entre todas las exposiciones había una muy interesante llamada "Draw it". El dibujo es una disciplina relacionada con muchas otras como la botánica, la zoología, etc.

Among all the exhibitions there was one pretty interesting called "Draw it". Drawing is a discipline connected to many others as botany, zoology and so on.

Rápidamente nos fuimos al China Town, al Tai Ka Lok restaurante. Una deliciosa comida pero las bebidas fueron caras. Gastamos £ 16 más £ 4 bebidas.

Quickly we went to China Town, to Tai Ka Lok Restaurant. A delicious food but drinks were expensive. We spend £16 plus £4 drinks.

Volvimos al el albergue de St. Paul, tomamos nuestras mochilas y nos fuimos al Museo Británico. Una vez más abrumados por el contenido Enciclopédico decidimos visitar todas las salas dedicadas al Egipto y Roma. Y, por supuesto, hemos visto la piedra de Roseta. 

We came back at the YHA St. Paul's, we took our backpacks and we went to the British Museum. Again overwhelmed by the enciclopedic content we decided to visit all the rooms devoted to Egypt and Rome. And of course we saw the Rosetta Stone.
